SculpSure Q&A

by Kay Elledge, MD, FACOG

What is SculpSure®?

SculpSure® is an FDA-approved laser treatment for the removal of fat from the abdomen and flanks. The device is used during a 25-minute treatment where a non-suction applicator is a directed at the fat which is heated to between 42° and 47° C. This procedure eliminates the fat cells without harming the dermal tissues. SculpSure® is non-invasive for and can reduce stubborn fat which diet and exercise have failed to get rid of. The treatment also requires no downtime. Clinical trials have shown a fat reduction of roughly 24% in fat volume after just a single treatment.

Is SculpSure® right for me?

SculpSure® is best for individuals with trouble spots, especially those which are resistant to diet and increased activity.

How many treatments will I need?

Since every person is unique, the exact number may vary. The doctor will create a personalized plan to meet each person’s goals. Ask the doctor about the treatment program which will be best for your needs.

What can I expect during the treatment?

Most patients report a tingling sensation sporadically during the treatment which is typically tolerated well.

When will results be visible?

Patients usually start to see results within 6 weeks after the treatment. This is when the body starts to eliminate the destroyed fat cells. The full results are typically seen at 12 weeks.

How long will results last?

Fat cells destroyed during treatment will not regenerate, however a healthy diet and exercise must be maintained to avoid putting on additional fat.

How long before I can resume my activities?

SculpSure® requires no downtime. Patients can return to work or their personal activities immediately following treatment.

What do I do now?

The next step will be to come into the office for a free consultation. During the appointment, the doctor will go over the details of the procedure and anything that needs to be done before hand. From there, you can set up appointments for treatment which can accommodate your busy schedule.
